The Shrine to the Ancestors is located at a waystation on the border of the Kitsu Family and Akodo provinces, near a small lake. It is jointly administered by the Akodo and Kitsu Family clans, reflecting their shared reverence for ancestral spirits. The shrine features a resident monk who assists visitors with offerings, which traditionally include rice, beer or wine, and candles. It serves as a place for the living to connect with their ancestors and is notable for its significance in ancestor worship, a key aspect of Lion Clan culture.
The shrine is a site for rituals to commune with spirits. Matsu Tomoe, the grandmother of Doji Setsuna, is notably invoked during these ceremonies. Offerings made during such rituals include candles, sake, and origami clan animals. Matsu Tomoe has manifested in the past, serving as a reminder of the importance of respecting one’s lineage and responsibilities. The shrine maintains a sacred and private nature, with monks instructed to keep events confidential.
