The Emerald Empire

Lore of Rokugan

The world beneath the chronicle — its clans and families, the things they carry, and the code by which a samurai is measured.

Bushidō

The code names the virtues by which a samurai's life is measured — among them Sincerity, Duty and Loyalty, Compassion, Courage, Courtesy, Honor, and Righteousness. Few hold all of them perfectly at once, and a samurai's character is usually legible in which tenet they hold paramount and which they hold least.

The Celestial Order

Heaven, Earth, and the mortal realm are bound in one order, watched over by Lord Sun and Lady Moon and the Fortunes and kami between them. Omens are read as that order's language, and the reading belongs to theologians, shugenja, and monks, who serve the Empire as its interpreters of Heaven's will.
