The Border Waystation is a post road station located on the border between the Kitsu Family and Akodo provinces, constructed around a small lake that features a Shrine of the Lake Kami. This waystation is jointly administered by the Akodo and Kitsu Family clans, offering well-maintained lodging for travelers and dignitaries. Amenities include samurai quarters and a tea house suitable for ceremonies. The lake is noted for its pleasant water, especially after dark. The Emerald Magistrates were informed that their papers would be reviewed in the morning and were encouraged to rest. Kitsu Family samurai hosts invited the magistrates to a tea ceremony at the tea house by the lake. These hosts, relatives of the Kitsu Family daimyō, expressed surprise at the presence of the Emerald Magistrates. During the ceremony, discussions centered on topics of home, duty, and the beauty of Rokugan, with participants sharing their thoughts on the most beautiful places in the land. As the evening progressed, Shiba Midori sensed a supernatural presence around Doji Setsuna, hearing the clank of armor. This prompted a proposal to visit the shrine to make offerings. Shiba Midori prepared items for the ritual, while Bayushi Monban and Doji Setsuna contributed their own offerings. The ritual involved invoking the spirit of Doji Setsuna's grandmother, Matsu Tomoe, who manifested and challenged Doji Setsuna for neglecting her ancestors, providing guidance on honor and duty. After the encounter, the monk at the shrine was instructed to keep the events confidential. Recently, the Border Waystation has been associated with a spirit containment plan involving the Border Waystation. This location serves as a destination for the release of a Fire Spirit, which is to be taken beyond the last large river north of the mountains and past the way station. The way station is part of a plan involving a spirit currently possessing Bayushi Monban. The spirit has conditionally agreed to remain within Monban temporarily if taken away from water-laden areas, with the understanding that it will be freed near a shrine to a Fortune and past the Border Waystation.
