S44Champion of the Unicorn, and a woman Setsuna has actually met — she was a guest at her wedding. Was to give up the Championship, the name, her clan's border territory and her place in the Unicorn succession for this marriage, and refused at the last. A free spirit; her daughter more so, and offended on her mother's behalf. Her arrangement with her lover is as good as a marriage in all but name, kept unmarried so her own value stayed available to the clan. No clan-level match exists above what she was offered.
S45In Moto Gaheris's camp. As Unicorn Champion she may be able to nullify the betrothal on her own authority — which makes her the person who can end this. A back channel to her now exists, opened without Gaheris having to concede anything.
S49Champion of the Unicorn, and she refused on principle. Asako Ikari came to her court to take her own life and was intercepted, and from her the Champion learned that Akodo Arasou had ordered one of his own daimyō to disgrace his wife to clear the way for the match. She would not build a marriage on that, and says that had the Lion simply admitted the groom was not free to wed, she could have declined politely and none of this need have happened. She freed Ikari and bore her no ill will. Her terms: the Lion leave, the borders go back, the captives go home — and she no longer wants the concessions the marriage would have brought. She grasped the bad-faith lever the instant it was named. She declined a private word with a magistrate on grounds of propriety, and she will personally answer for any insult given to Setsuna or Midori.
