What is known
S42Commander of the Lion relief force. Received Setsuna's letter and the shōgi set, and opened the castle gate on her own authority when nobody could have made her. Midori read her at the tea: she was sent by her own superiors to lose her troops, on the field or in a hopeless defence. She needs this peace more than anyone present.
S43The Lion general — a hundred and fifty ashigaru, fifty wounded. Countered Gaheris's terms with her own and would not be baited into an unwinnable board or an unwinnable field. Won the shōgi game on her own play, with Midori's help. Signed.
S44Reads Altansarnai more generously than duty requires — that she never wanted the marriage and took it for her clan, and that she would respect the dedication in anyone who was not her enemy. Named Toshi Ranbo as the place where a Kakita and a Matsu stop being able to talk amicably. Gave up the betrothal's terms — Shinjo Altansarnai to stand down as Champion, take the Ikoma name and marry Ikoma Anakazu; the Unicorn to cede border land including Hisomori Village. Called it amicable, and said she never understood why Altansarnai agreed, since the Champion lost standing by it. Confirmed the war is about Lion honour and not the marriage: restore the honour another way and the Lion can stand down. Passed on a rumour that Altansarnai has a lover and a daughter. Did not know whether the contract carried any penalty for breach.
S47Put a dozen of her own around the envoy's tent and let as many Moto stand with them. Told the magistrates the crime was theirs to solve. Still on board, lower in status than Setsuna, and knows how exposed she is.
